Love everything about Las Vegas except for the fact that there’s no place you can drunkenly scream the wrong lyrics to “Free Bird” while eating (allegedly) Texas barbecue? You’re in luck: Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer will open this fall in the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, just for you.
From the press release: “The rock ‘n’ roll-inspired venue will feature classic hits, signature sips and the best down-home, Texas-style BBQ to be found on the Las Vegas Strip.” Stiff competition out there too. We hear Vegas barbecue is almost as good as Miami barbecue.
Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer promises to be part Coyote Ugly, part muffin-topped tourist. “Each night the enthusiastic bar staff will get the house swinging and singing by hopping up on the bars and stage, leading spontaneous sing-alongs to mash ups of classic Skynyrd songs, such as ‘What’s Your Name’ and ‘Gimme Three Steps.'”
Menu offerings will include “biscuits and gravy, ribs, brisket and pulled pork. Signature side dishes include coleslaw, baked beans, okra and macaroni and cheese.” But what you really care about is the Jack Daniel’s shot bar and their “wide assortment of beers on tap and longnecks, including Texas favorites Shiner Bock and Lone Star.”

Oddly, there’s no mention of Jacksonville, Florida, the band’s hometown.
Will this barbecue concept work on the strip? We’re not sure. Salt Lick didn’t last very long in Las Vegas, but Salt Lick didn’t have a Jack Daniel’s shot bar or table-dancing waitresses (two understandably key ingredients for Las Vegas), right?
