When the woman at Campisi’s on Lovers Lane said it would take 45 minutes to an hour for them to deliver an order of eggplant parmesan with a salad and spaghetti, I was a bit taken aback. I still have a bit of that old “30 minutes or it’s free” hangover…and it seems a little, shall we say, wimpy to hedge the time by 15 minutes. But I thought I’d give them the benefit of the doubt in respect to their home style Italian and sort of a sit-down-and-have-a-glass-o’-wine with your meal reputation.
The woman who took my order was friendly enough, but more efficient than anything else–kinda more important where home delivery is concerned. Unfortunately the driver (or the cooks, depending who took longer) didn’t score terribly high in that regard. The fellow–who was very nice–was just six minutes shy of blowing through the 60-minute alternative deadline. That’s nine minutes past the more reasonable 45 minutes…and come on, 60 minutes is a pretty long time when you’re hungry.
Still the fare was perfectly packaged in neat little boxes (a thoughtful touch) and quite hot. The spaghetti was covered in spicy marinara and the eggplant parmesan laid out thin and lightly breaded and covered in cheese, both easy on the palate. The only flaw was a slightly salt-happy chef–which says a lot, since I douse everything I eat with the stuff.
Overall, though, not bad at all for something you can make at home in half the time.
