There is definitely a tongue placed firmly in the collective cheek of Gil Mantera’s Party Dream, who come through town tomorrow night for a gig at The Loft. The ’80s throwback, electronic, synth-pop act from Ohio is currently on the road in support of its 2009 release, Dreamscape, which, indeed, is a fine description for the band’s sound if all you do is sit around and watch Totally Minnie and stuff like that all day long. Or if you wish you did, which, come to think of it, ain’t the worst way to live.
The real trick with GMPD, though, is its live show, which, in 2006, was deemed the tops live show at SXSW by our colleagues from the Village Voice in New York, who’d made it down to Austin for the trip. Seriously: “The best act I caught this year,” wrote Kevin John back then.
So, lucky you, then, that our friends at The Loft have been kind enough to pass along five pairs of free tickets for us to hand out to eager DC9 readers. Want one of the pairs? OK: Be among the first five folks to email me right now with the words “Party Dream” in the subject line. Do that, and you’re in. Good luck!
Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners!
