Raised in Oklahoma, but now a resident of Dallas, Greg Reichel is the best kind of alt-country songwriter, one who enjoys both the old-school, rural soul of Townes Van Zandt and the snotty genius of Ryan Adams.

Reichel released his debut album back in 2007 and he’s been skimping and saving in order to record a follow-up since. But, judging by the email he sent me this morning, he’s getting closer to his goal.

“Writing and production of another album has been in the process, and I hope to maybe have another one out soon,” he writes.

Doesn’t sound too definitive, but here’s hoping the guy can get things in order as he’s a solid local singer/songwriter.

To preview his (free) performance tonight at Adair’s, Reichel was kind enough to offer a MP3 of “Wise Man,” the lead-off track from his debut.

Check it out after the jump.
