Some rooster. Michael Wyatt’s coffee roasting studio has been toasting beans for weeks each morning in South Dallas without making a sound. Meanwhile, what sounds like an old and soon-to-be-dead rooster across the street from my apartment manages something that sounds like cock-a-doodle-cat-mating every single morning.
Full City Rooster, though, is finally about to crow. They’re having a big coffee party this weekend and you’re invited.
Environmentally friendly coffee is a big trend these days, and Wyatt has taken many measures to make sure his burgeoning roasting business keeps up the pace. He uses organic, bird-friendly, certified-as-fair-trade beans, and then roasts them in a Loring roaster that reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions significantly.
The party is Saturday afternoon and promises tours, tastings, multiple DJs and a “sleight of hand artist,” of all things. (Watch your wallets!) Maybe you’re happy enough just to know that Dallas has another local coffee roaster to choose from, but if you need another excuse, twenty percent of the event’s sales will benefit after-school youth program America SCORES Dallas.
