We’ve reached the halftime portion of 2012, where everyone’s scrambling to tally their faves from the past six months. Instead of looking back, we thought it’d be more productive to address what you should be listening to in the future. Here are a few DFW songs to check out, as you ease into Memorial Day weekend.
Blackstone Rangers, “Into the Sea” This quartet’s been busy recording their new EP, which drops in a couple weeks. This track sounds very different than the full-court distortion I witnessed back at the beginning of this year at 2826 Arnetic. Dig it.
Picnictyme, “Horizons” The Dallas producer and performer has worked with A.Dd+ and Erykah Badu, but he’s going solo with his upcoming album, Sea Monsters, set for late summer release.

Mystery Skulls, “Ghost” Luis Dubuc, aka Mystery Skulls, will be at this weekend’s Homegrown Fest, and has been circulating some new material. Here’s a little taste of what he’s up to, and what you might hear.
New Science Projects, “Blackwater Vacation Club” We caught up with this Denton group last year, and they’ve got a split with Star Commander out next week, to follow up this year’s LP, Bikini Salute. See them live Friday, June 1, at Andy’s in Denton.
Lincoln Durham, “Last Red Dawn“ Jeff Liles at the Kessler put this multi-instrumentalist on my radar, and while I have yet to catch him live, his 2012 album, The Shovel vs. The Howling Bones, produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard, is one to take note of. He resides in Austin, but plays up this way enough that we’ll claim him.
