Deep Ellum: Making Friends Far and Wide

This is the van belonging to the band Colour Revolt from Mississippi, which was stolen in Deep Ellum early yesterday morning. If you see it, well, they’d like it and their shit back, pronto.

A couple of days ago, a band from Mississippi called Colour Revolt rolled into town to play the North by Southwest music fest at Ellum: Onstage on Taylor Street. Hey, sounded like a good idea at the time, snagging a gig in Dallas on the way to Austin, where Colour Revolt has a handful of gigs scheduled at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin.

Only, Colour Revolt now deeply regrets its decision to play Dallas: The band’s van and trailer, which were parked in Deep Ellum, were stolen, and Colour Revolt was stripped of everything: “instruments, gear, clothes and computers,” reports The Clarion-Ledger, which notes that the theft took place in “the Deep Ellum area, an entertainment and arts district east of downtown Dallas.” (Hey, remember: There’s no such thing as bad publicity.)

The band, consisting of University of Mississippi students, canceled a gig in Houston and is trying to beg and borrow equipment for its four SXSW shows beginning Thursday. (Among its scheduled shows, the band is supposed to play a Paste magazine-PlayStation shindig on Friday.)

On its MySpace page, the band explains that “we had just packed up after our show, went back into the venue, [and] 15 minutes later, the van and everything in it had disappeared. We lost not only our van and trailer. But all of our gear and merch, and most of our personal belongings, like laptops, clothes, papers for school. Our van was insured, but most of the rest of the things are not.” So if you see a white 1994 Chevy G20 van, with Mississippi plates (L890WB), well, it’s theirs. The page also contains a very lengthy list of all the gear stolen, with serial numbers.
