If nothing else, corny dog challenger Warren Street was able to keep his lunch down. (Patrick Michels)
One of the great disputed records in sports was laid to rest Sunday afternoon at the State Fair of Texas, as last year’s corn dog-eating co-champions faced off against a dozen challengers in a 10-minute bout on the Fair’s main stage.
While no longer an officially sanctioned IFOCE event, the corny dog eating championship is one of the nation’s classic contests. Last year’s winners, Brent Ricord and Mike Wilkes, each put down 12 of the battered stickmeats. Without giving too much away, both pulled well ahead of the pack early on. (Just seven dogs was good enough for a three-way tie for third place.) This morning we do indeed have an undisputed corny dog eating champion, with 12.5 dogs to his credit. But is it Wilkes? Is it Ricord?
