Video from a body cam worn by a DPD cop — released by the department Thursday — shows a dramatic water rescue from creek near 5800 Military Parkway. The man being rescued lost control of his car before he and the car fell more than 50 feet into the creek. He was unhurt.
The fact that a body cam caught the action is significant. In December, police Chief David Brown announced that the department would use forfeiture funds to purchase 200 new body cameras to be put into the field early in 2015. DPD says the February 6, rescue was captured on a new camera, not one of the 50 previously still being used after an October 2014 pilot program.
