The November issue of Texas Monthly features a piece by Michael Hall titled “The Exonerated,” which offers testimony from the 37 men who spent a combined 525 years in Texas prisons for crimes of which they were later cleared. Actually, not all the men spoke to Hall: Michael Blair, convicted in 1994 for the rape and murder of 7-year-old Ashley Estell, refused to be interviewed.
On November 6, Hall will be joined by the likes of Dallas’s James Waller, exonerated in March 2007 after 11 years in prison for a rape he didn’t commit; Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins; and SMU’s Rick Halperin and Tony Pederson to discuss the story at McCord Auditorium in Dallas Hall on the SMU campus.
