Just a heads-up: A few minutes ago, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent word and posted this press release noting that tomorrow morning, it’s planning to picket the Dean Foods shareholders meeting at the Dallas Museum of Art — and picket it hard.As in: Sure, they’re bringing signs (that read, among other things, “Dean Foods: Prioritize Animal Welfare” and “End Cruel Tail-Docking”), but they’re also planning on showing photos and video footage from an undercover investigation at a Pennsylvania milk-supplier to Dean Foods-owned Land o’ Lakes that shows cows having their “tails cut off without being given any painkillers, [that] are kept in filthy conditions, are forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, and then are sent — exhausted — to slaughter.”
So if you’re driving down N. Harwood tomorrow morning ’round 9 and start wondering, say, what’s the hubbub, bub, you can’t say you weren’t warned.
Update at 2:33 p.m.: Dean Foods responds: “We believe that the health and well-being of dairy cows is directly related to the production of high-quality milk and therefore to the quality of our products.”
