Trust me, famous people are way overrated. But on the off chance you wanna meet one or just feel the need to spend some time hanging out with film industry folk, here’s the deal: The AFI Dallas International Film Festival, which makes its bow March 22 through April 1 in Victory Park and various theaters around town, is looking for volunteers to work everything from panels to parties, screenings to “special events.”
AFI isn’t using any ol’ method to choose its freebie workers; the fest has rounded up former talent agent Renee Adams, of the defunct Adams Agency, as its volunteer coordinator. Says our pal Tearlach Hutcheson, the fest’s recently named managing director, AFI is looking for “someone who represents the spirit and exuberance of the Dallas community.” C’mon, dude, seriously. “We’re looking for the enthusiastic and the unique — everything from the industry professional to the film-lover,” she tells Unfair Park. “And if you wanna let people know, we’re doing an open call at the AFI headquarters on February 3 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. So they can come down and get a vibe, and we can get their information and filter through the appplications.” Adams tells Unfair Park there are “like, 300” spots available.
