A new spot opening this summer at Malcolm X Boulevard and Commerce Street combines so many of our favorite things: tapas, hookah, alcohol and Lebanese food.
Marc Mansour, co-owner and GM of Zåtar Lebanese Tapas & Bar, said the new spot will have tapas, specialty dishes and traditional Lebanese desserts like knefeh, which is one of the greatest desserts ever created because it has cheese in it. Its recipe varies, but it’s basically a white cheese similar to mozzarella that’s wrapped in pastry dough and soaked in a sweet orange or rose syrup. Promising “impeccable Lebanese hospitality,” the 5,000-square-foot spot will have craft cocktails “with Lebanese twists,” a lounge and a covered patio where diners can indulge in hookah.
According to the press release, Mansour, who immigrated to the U.S. from Lebanon in 2001, has been the director of catering at W Dallas — Victory for the last five years and is teaming up on this venture with chef Moe Khazem, whose Lower Greenville restaurant Quariah Lebanese closed in December 2015. With the help of a pastry chef from Lebanon, the team plans to start with dinner service and eventually expand to weekday lunch and weekend brunch.
