As 2024 rolls to an end, its suspension shot and its shocks blown after an incredibly bumpy 11 months, we at the Observer want to thank our readers for reading and our members for providing generous financial support. God bless us, everyone, as Tiny Tim said.
And like another of Charles Dickens’ characters sort of said: “Please … we want some more.”
We’re about one-third of the way toward reaching our goal of raising $15,000 during our final fundraising campaign for 2024, which ends on New Year’s Eve. Time’s a-wasting, and if this sort of appeal don’t work, we might resort to showing up at your door singing carols until you give us money to go away. Trust us. You don’t want that. The three wise men would have caught the fastest camel heading back east at the sound of our staff breaking out “Ring Christmas Bells.”
Setting aside threats of musical extortion, why should you take a moment during this busy season of giving to become one of our supporting members? Not to make you splash some extra bourbon in your eggnog, but 2024 was pretty dicey. Do you really think 2025 is going to be any better?
When news happens, Dallas Observer is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.

Dallas Observer
In the past year, we’ve given readers stories about the high price of groceries, threats to free speech, homelessness, dangers facing the LGBTQ community and the effect of national politics on Dallas pocketbooks, always keeping in mind what these stories mean to those who live in our community.
Well, in 2025 the Texas Legislature will be in session, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will still be in office, Dallas City Hall will still be Dallas City Hall and … let’s not talk about what’s coming our way from Washington just now. It is the season of joy, after all. But wait! Don’t go yet! There’ll be plenty of nice stuff headed our way, too: good music, tons of great food and, as always, a creative community helping North Texas become more beautiful and interesting.
Our Christmas wish is to be here next year and forever, keeping you informed about what’s happening in the place you call home, giving you the news freely, never behind a paywall. With a little help from our friends, you can make that wish come true.
