In case you missed it–and I know you did–the Dallas Stars‘ first-round flop is looking more embarrassing by the day. With Mavs-Spurs and the EDS Byron Nelson Classic in our faces this week it’s difficult to think about the Stars. But what’s happening to the team that beat them–the Colorado Avalanche–adds even more insight and insult to their disappointing playoffs. Against goalie Marty Turco, the Avs scored 5, 5, 4, 1 and 3 goals in the five games. In the second round against the Anaheim Ducks and a rookie goalie named Ilya Bryzgalov, Colorado has yet to score. Yep, that’s zero goals in 120 minutes.
Morale to the story: Either Turco really sucks, or this Bryzgalov kid is the second coming of (insert name of Hall of Fame goalie I can’t think of because I don’t follow or like hockey). Now, I know your next question, and it’s legit: Why are we still thinking about the Stars? Answer: Because we won’t be tricked into thinking about them again next season. Even if they go 82-0 in the regular season, the Stars won’t win back our trust, or our attention, until they prove they won’t choke in the playoffs. –Richie Whitt
