The Lone Star Emmy Award nominations came out this morning, and at least three of the local network affiliates did pretty well–especially WFAA-Channel 8, which got some 53 nods in pretty much every category (including two for a piece called “Inspirational Songs For the Entire Family To Sing,” which sounds too horrible to contemplate). Dale Hansen’s such the giant in the room there’s only one other sports anchor even nominated: FSN Southwest’s John Rhadigan. Aw, where’s Newy?

KDFW-Channel 4, the Fox affiliate, garnered some 26 nominations in categories ranging from Overall Station Excellence and Politics/Government Single Story to On-Air Talent (Heather Hays, which we so could have called) to…uh…Graphics Arts. KTVT-Channel 11 came in a close third with 24 nominations, including three for Sarah Dodd’s coverage of the FBI’s investigation at City Hall and one for that ridiculous Dr. Mona stunt. (What, these aren’t real awards? Shame.)

And poor KXAS-Channel 5 only got 16, including several for its weather and sports people. To be honest, we thought Channel 5 went dark between the end of prime-time and the start of The Tonight Show; really, had no idea. KXTX-Channel 39, the local Telemundo affiliate, also garnered a handful of nominations, including one for its coverage of the mega-march over the spring. Winners will be announced October 21 in Houston. –Robert Wilonsky
