A Kimball High School student’s week got off to a bad start Monday, Dallas ISD police say, when he shot himself in the leg at the end of first period. The student, who has not been identified, was able to get inside with the gun because typical metal detector policies were not followed when he arrived at school with a parent for an unscheduled conference with school administrators.
The student’s injuries are not serious, but the school was briefly placed on lockdown after the shooting. A photo, circulated by kids who said they were in the classroom, purportedly shows the gun, a .22 revolver, laying underneath a desk.
