The caretakers of the puppy who suffered third degree burns over most of his body were optimistic until the very end. But last night, Justice died after some of his wounds became infected and his condition worsened, according to a posting by DFW Rescue Me.

The dog was rescued in Pleasant Grove last week after someone found him badly burned outside an apartment complex. He had been covered in lighter fluid and set on fire. Whoever tortured the animal has not been arrested.

The dog was at Texas A&M receiving care when he passed away suddenly last night. Unfair Park spoke with Jonnie England, the Director of Animal Advocacy and Communications at Metroplex Animal Coalition, yesterday afternoon, when Justice seemed to be improving. “He had a better than 50-50 chance of making it … they consider his condition stable,” she said.

But England warned, “He’s not out of the woods yet.” She saw evidence of poor nutrition and other indicators that lead her to believe he was never well cared for. The animal likely suffered a difficult life, only to be followed by a terribly cruel death.
