While a federal trustee yesterday suggested that the Texas Rangers’ own law firm should be ejected, Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said – in so many words – what we’ve all been muttering for months:

F*&^%$#$@ Tom Hicks!

During a conference call with baseball reporters to address next week’s All-Star Game, Selig was asked about the clusterfuck known as the sale of your Texas Rangers. Selig’s blunt answer:

“The economics of this have nothing to do with baseball,” he said. “This has everything to do with Mr. Hicks and Mr. Hicks’ personal economic situation. Tom Hicks put the club into bankruptcy.”

Selig went on, reminded everyone – including, methinks, bankruptcy judges, mediators, restructuring specialists and auctioneers – exactly how big baseball’s ball are.

“Let me make it clear: Baseball has always had the right to select its ownership,” Selig stated. “There’s a long history of that that predates even my entry into baseball in 1970. There’s no doubt in my mind that we have the right to select ownership, and we will do that.”
