That fact was reiterated this week when Ware confirmed that he will decline $60,000 in lockout payments from the NFL Players Association.

$30,000

Because he was on the active roster every week of the ’09 and ’10 seasons, Ware and players like him are eligible to receive $60,000 over a six-week period during the lockout.

“I think it builds a unity,” Ware said yesterday. “Lets guys know there are players out there with you, who will give up their $60,000, that this is a brotherhood, this is a fraternity.”

I know, it’s easy to turn down $60,000 when you’ve got a $79 million contract that guarantees you $40 million.

But what Ware did during a stop at an Irving elementary school solidified his status.

Ware made a $5,000 donation to Farine Elementary School to help with the medical bills of first-grader Misael Rico, who was hit by a car in January.

“I just thought, ‘You’re a blessed guy and you have enough money, so let’s help out,'” Ware said. “It just kind of came over me because I wanted to help the cause.”

I know you can do with your money what you want, but if Dez Bryant wants to patch up his public image he’d put down the jewelry and pay a visit to Rico ASAP.
