Remember, back a few years ago, when Craig Watkins’ reputation as a crusading do-gooder district attorney was still relatively intact? When he could credibly present himself — on The Colbert Report for example — as someone helping to restore public faith in the criminal justice system?
In case you needed a reminder of just how far Watkins’ star has fallen, he provided one last night in an email blast to supporters.
I have served the citizens of Dallas County for 8 years as your District Attorney. Now I want to continue to serve you as a private attorney. Call me if you are charged with a DWI at 1-844-4CRAIGW. I will make sure JUSTICE IS SERVED FOR YOU!
Granted, DWI suspects need attorneys and Watkins needs to make a living. And Watkins hasn’t yet sunk to plastering late-night TV with low-budget infomercials. But he did send the email blast from a Hotmail account, which somehow seems worse.
