On Friday — hey, only eight days before the election, what’s the rush? — Ed Oakley debuted his new TV spot, in which he promises to tear down “aging, rundown apartment complex[es] that have become a haven for crime.” Actually, Oakley doesn’t promise anything; he never says a word in the spot. Not. A. Word. Instead, he has what we assume are Dallas citizens do the talking, till a female voiceover informs us that Oakley’s plan consists of razing “2,000 crime-ridden apartments a year till the problem is solved.” Which does not sound vague at all. –Robert Wilonsky
