So says a worker for Balfour Beatty Construction we ran into this afternoon whilst nosing around the corner of Market and Young Streets. The parking structure is currently closed off by red “DANGER” tape as the construction crew cleans up around the site and surveyors make their final calculations.
Demolition on the parking structure will commence “in a couple days,” he says, while noting that construction on the hotel is “caught up in Dallas politics.”
Of course, this comes as no major surprise, as we’ve known this move was coming to set the stage for construction to begin April 1, which developer Jack Matthews has assured us is the plan.
Matthews won’t need the bond issuance to be approved to move forward with construction since the council has already approved $8 million, and Matthews has kicked in nearly $2 million himself to jumpstart the process.

So how far along will construction be with that $10 million? “Not real far,” Matthews tells us.
