After a veritable avalanche of public comments on Twitter and in 18 town hall meetings, DART’s board of directors voted yesterday to hike — er, “streamline” — its fares.
The changes go into effect on December 3. The cost of a local ride jumps up from $1.75 to $2.50, with a corresponding hike in the cost of monthly and annual passes. Corporate passes also go up, but regional tickets, which cover rides on DART, the Trinity Railway Express, The T in Fort Worth, and DCTA in Denton, will cost the same and the intermediate “system” category, which I never could quite get my head around anyway, is gone.
Seniors, kids, and high school students will still get a cheaper ride at $1.25. Prices are also cheaper between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. You can look at all the changes here.
