Question: Is Jim Schutze a prophet, or does does the city just go to him for its marching orders? Just a few short hours ago, he was grousing about the piddling response by the Dallas Police Department to a string of armed robberies on the Katy Trail.
Immediately DPD officers, who we presume were breathlessly refreshing Unfair Park for Jim’s thoughts, jumped into action. Exactly 165 minutes after Jim’s column hit the Interwebs (hey, police work takes time), the department posted a description of the assailants on its Facebook page.
Police say they are looking for two black males, believed to be behind
14 recent robberies, four of them on the Katy Trail. One is described as
being 20 to 30 years old, between 5-feet-8-inches and 6-feet-2 inches
tall and about 160 pounds. The second is 20 to 22 years old, between
5-feet-8-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall, also about 160 pounds. They
were seen driving gray/silver four-door sedan that may be a Chrysler or
Chevy Impala.
Oh, and they’re carrying semi-automatic handguns.

in the department’s release, in apparent response to its public shaming
by Jim, is the following: “The Police Department must
continually balance the need to inform the public against releasing
information that could jeopardize the investigation and potential
suspect identification.”
