Police say that Benjamin Kevin Newman was drunk when he left The Hangout Patio Bar in Plano on Thursday night. The 22-year-old Dallas resident also must have been angry, since he allegedly steered his car into four people standing in the parking lot.

“We believe, based on the evidence and talking to some of the witnesses and staff, that this was intentional,” says Plano PD spokesman David Tilley.

Three of the four victims were bar employees.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Police found Newman a short time later, driving his white sedan down Central Expressway. They took him to the Collin County jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and accident involving injury.

Newman’s potential punishment — and his $110,000 bond — are about to increase significantly. Word comes today that one of his alleged victims, 23-year-old Christopher Ryan Brigman, has died from his injuries.

Tilley says Newman will face additional charges, but investigators aren’t yet sure what they will be.

“They can range anywhere from intoxication assault all the way up to murder,” Tilley says.

Friends have set up a Facebook page in Brigman’s memory.
