The Dallas Cowboys just put on their Web site plans for a memorial service in honor of Wilford “Crazy Ray” Jones — the team’s “unofficial mascot of 44 years” who died Saturday morning at the age of 76. If you’re so inclined, it will take place at 10 a.m. this Saturday in the Stadium Club inside Texas Stadium. Says the site, all are welcome beginning at 9 a.m., and if you do plan on going, enter the parking lot at the Gate 1 parking entrance. To get to the club go through Gate 10, which is where you’ll find that statue of Tom Landry.
Also from the site: “The Cowboys also announced Tuesday that Ray will be honored at a 2007 regular-season home game at Texas Stadium next fall. A tribute to the team’s most famous fan will be presented, and the organization will honor Ray’s wife Mattie in an on-field ceremony.” Looks like no Ring of Honor, Richie, but, still, it’s something. –Robert Wionsky
