Should come as no surprise because I’ve been speculating this for the last couple months, but the Cowboys are now telling the good folks in San Antonio not to expect a full, month-long training camp in their city this summer.
At this point, the best bet — pending the expected lockout lift — is the Cowboys practicing at The Alamodome from July 28 through August 10, then holding the remainder of training camp at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington after the pre-season opener Thursday, August 11 against the Denver Broncos.
Pre-lockout, the Cowboys planned on a kickoff gala in The Alamodome July 26 with the first practice on the 27th. But as of right now, the tentative plan is to hold that event the 28th and start the pads a poppin’ — but not two-a-days, mind you — on Friday the 29th.
Our old friend Newy Scruggs talked to team officials about the logistical quandary, and was told by spokesman Rich Dalrymple that “You need to be able to get out of the heat, and Arlington would give us that option.”
