There’s a curious item posted on the city council’s Economic Development Committee’s agenda for Monday morning: “Project Wall-E.” And that’s all it says, save for the fact it will be discussed entirely behind closed doors in executive session. The reason: “to deliberate the purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property where deliberation in an open meeting would have a detrimental effect on the position of the City in negotiations with a third person.”

A phone call to Karl Zavitkovsky, head of the Office of Economic Development, didn’t get us much further: “I can’t tell you anything,” he says this morning. When pressed further, he says, “I can say there will be a very, very interesting announcement about that soon.”

So, is this, you know, a big deal? “Yes.”

Given the name, does this have to do with those years-old rumors about Disney doing Dallas? “The name wouldn’t tell you anything.”

$30,000

This is fun. Let’s keep playing the guessing game. “I’ll give you one clue,” Zavitkovsky says finally. “Focus on the E.”

Let the wild speculation commence.
