Erik Clapp, the Fort Worth filmmaker who tends to Bobbie Wygant’s archives, was sure he had in the stack o’ tapes an old interview with Leslie Nielsen, which we had planned to post earlier this week. Alas, he dug and dug but came up empty-handed. But Erik more than makes up for it with this latest batch of entries: interviews with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and Ricardo Montalbán for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
The interviews themselves are enjoyable enough — and, say, how come I don’t remember Shatner performing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Dallas Convention Center in 1978? And where’s that recording? And what were my parents thinking not taking me to what sounds like the best laser-light show in the history of ever? But, see, Clapp posts to the website the entire tape — even those before and after moments never intended to air. Which is why the Montalbán interview’s a special kind of gem; no spoilers, but do watch till the end — that voice, like Corinthian leather.
As a bonus, I’ve included another just-posted: Bobbie talking to Bill Murray for Stripes. Gold. Like Hanukkah gelt.
