Just after 2 a.m. Monday, a young Hispanic woman walked to a walk-up cigarette shop on Ann Arbor Avenue. Her boyfriend had taken her car, she told the person behind the window, and she needed a phone to call 911.
She had the phone when two men drove up in a red Mercury Grand Marquis. The driver got out and told her to get into the car. When she wouldn’t, he picked her up and shoved her in the backseat, pinning her down to prevent her from escaping. The cigarette stand worker spotted a handgun in the front seat before they drove off.
Police aren’t sure of the woman’s identity, but they are investigating her disappearance as a kidnapping. According to a news release sent out by police, she’s about 25, with shoulder-length brown hair streaked with blond. She wore knee-length white pants.
The witness didn’t get as good a look at the kidnappers, who are described as two Hispanic men, one wearing dark clothing, the other dressed in a white T-shirt and glasses, but the incident was captured on the store’s surveillance camera.
