Michael Wayne Atha, better known as Yelawolf, the Alabama-born skater-turned-rapper, is navigating an interesting path in the current class of hip-hop all-stars. A quick cameo on Missy Elliott’s 2005 The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott gave him some shine, but his work slanging hooks and producing mixtapes led to his signing with Columbia in 2007. Ultimately, he was released when Rick Rubin came on board, but a few legends would be in the decks to rectify Rubin’s oversight. On the heels of his 2010 mixtape, Trunk Muzik, he guested on Big Boi’s “You Ain’t No DJ,” which made me literally stop the album and download all the ‘Wolf I could find. His latest, Radioactive, is his first official full-length and, after dodging constant comparisons to Eminem, he found a partner in Shady Records, which released Radioactive. His last Dallas show was certainly buzz-worthy, so go ahead and save the date for this one. Austin’s Kydd opens.
