Pearl Jam’s Lightning Bolt tour stopped in Dallas on Friday. It already had a fairly significant North Texas tie — Denton heroes Midlake are opening a string of shows for Pearl Jam, including this week’s hometown stop.
But the local spotlight got even bigger during PJ’s second encore, when Dallas native Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent) got onstage with Carrie Brownstein (formerly of Sleater-Kinney) to cover Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In the Free World.” Clark sang and played tambourine, and Brownstein played guitar. There are a couple videos out there, but we’re a fan of the one shot by Dave Meek. We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
And in case you’re wondering how much of a Pearl Jam fan Annie Clark really is, the answer is: Enough to cover “Black” on the Portlandia tour last year.
