So. Puppet culture in Dallas? Way bigger than I ever realized — or bigger, at least, than I realized before posting yesterday’s item about Will Schutze’s Mr. Bonetangles marionette. Let’s just suffice to say that there are a lot of puppeteers in Dallas.
And, no, I’m not going to post about all of them. I will, however, make quick mention of Bleeckie, the more-muppet-than-puppet creation of Dallas native Leslie Fleming, who recently earned her Master’s in children’s media from New York University and who, for a spell, even worked a bit at Sesame Street.
Bleeckie’s kind of flown under the radar in town for the most part — despite, even this very entertaining bit in which the character, which is supposed to be a five-year-old puppet, visited the State Fair of Texas for the first time and even got to meet Bill Bragg, voice of Big Tex and the above clip of Bleeckie hopping on to Chatroulette and trying to get other web cam users to sing along to Britney Spears and Justin Bieber songs with her. It’s entertaining stuff, if nothing else.
Where’s the music connection, you ask? Ah: After the jump, check out Fleming’s/Bleeckie’s parody of Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie,” called, adorably, “Love The Way I Learn.”
