Though they started off as a duo, don’t think that Viva Voce is just another one of those bands that rock critics get all excited about because there’s apparently all this sexual tension in not having a bass player.
Not even close: The husband-and-wife team that leads this four-piece trade off on vocals over ghost-like atmospherics in the form of concise rock songs. And the band’s fourth proper release, Rose City, is another stellar release from this delightful group. Label mates Cut Off Your Hands, meanwhile, have a sound that would have sadly been passed over and labeled “generic” when Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand were catching raves for their debut releases. Offering up jangly post-punk with sweet four-part harmonies, this four-piece puts on a riveting live show.
Local artist Robert Gomez, who has received plenty of praise in the last few months, opens.
