There’s been some strategy behind building excitement for this year’s inaugural Homegrown Festival at the new Main Street Garden Park Saturday. Sure, the bill’s heavy on over-saturated local acts like Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights, Ishi, Telegraph Canyon and some 12 more acts—but every time someone mentions Homegrown, it seems like a new twist has been added.
Maybe it’s Homegrown’s weekly Twitter announcement in which the organizers reveal a new headlining act on Twitter’s sacred holiday, Music Monday. Or perhaps it’s the staggered list of sponsors, including Downtown Dallas, Shiner Bock, City Tavern, Indie-Verse, and, uh, us here at the Dallas Observer. Or maybe it’s the handful of hilarious YouTube videos they’ve commissioned as part of their viral marketing campaign.
Whatever the case, the lineup for Homegrown is looking like a terrific bill—and that’s before mentioning that it’s not just a music festival. There also will be art gallery showcases featuring the work of local artists, as well as live art demonstrations.
The icing on the cake, though, is that the whole thing only costs $10 when tickets are purchased in advance (they’re $15 at the gate). It’s the perfect opportunity to see Downtown Dallas’ newest park and some of the area’s top bands and artists at the same time.
