This has been a banner year for the ’80s underground, most notably in the Great State, where after nigh on 20 years away, Austin weirdo rock heroes Scratch Acid reunited last month. With that in mind, Laptop Deathmatch/Lost Generation general Mwanza Dover has added a new wrinkle to his annual Halloween tribute to Aussie gothic songwriting legend Nick Cave. This year Dover is joined by Will Kapinos (Jetscreamer), Aaron Gonzalez (Unconscious Collective, Yells at Eels) and Ben Burt (Brutal Juice) in a set that promises to be heavy on Cave’s contemporary Birthday Party alongside the David Yow/Scratch Acid theatrics. Joining them are a pair of the area’s most theatrical regular bands, No Wave neo-goths The Undoing of David Wright and heavy creepshow superintendents The Great Tyrant. Rounding out the expansive bill are locals Prayer for Animals and Austin’s White Denim.
