The radio program Texas Music Matters on KUT in Austin had The Old 97’s in studio for a performance last week and the powers that be behind the show at least partially used that gig as an excuse to talk some Dallas music.
And that’s where I come in to this anecdote; last week, the guys who produce the show approached me about talking some Dallas music with them on the air for a short segment. I did, name-checking Record Hop, Dove Hunter, Mom and Mount Righteous–the last of which a producer just emailed me about, saying they “really blew me away”–in the process and talking Deep Ellum and Denton as well.

Be warned, though: Host David Brown takes a dig at the D early on, playing some Vanilla Ice. But I think I got him back when I corrected him on his reference of the recent Denton piece in the New York Times. —Pete Freedman
