Cool video, right? That’s from These Are Powers, the Brooklyn-based band headlining the Parade of Flesh show at the Lounge tonight that Daniel Rodrigue wrote about for this past week’s paper.

And, if you’re not headed to the Ratatat show at the Granada tonight, really, you could do much, much worse than this one.

Why? Well, for one, the pretty interesting experimental music. But, secondly, because you’d be supporting some homegrown talents.

$30,000

See, what Daniel didn’t tell you in his review was that These Are Powers guitarist Anna Barie is from good ol’ Garland, Texas, and that she used to work the door at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton from time to time. He also neglected to tell you that When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth guitarist Marc Voorhees originally hails from Denton.

He did, however, remember to mention that the opening act, Scarily Terrible, is from Dallas. But he didn’t mention that this seemingly brand new band is pretty good considering how it’s essentially come out of nowhere to show up on this bill. Or that they’ve got five songs up for free download on their Myspace page.

Oh well. Can’t win ’em all. —Pete Freedman
