Third time’s a charm. Things tend to happen in threes. Yadda yadda yadda. Whichever dictum you prefer, it seems to ring particularly true with the Los Angeles-based new wave pop-rockers in Shiny Toy Guns.
There are three words in their name, sure, but that’s kiddy stuff. The band’s founding members, Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson, have collaborated in three different musical ventures. Shiny Toy Guns’ first album We Are Pilots was re-recorded and released three times. Oh, and three years after forming, the band dropped female lead vocalist Ursula Vari for Carah Faye Charnow. Plus, in 2008, Sisely Treasure, the third contestant voted off of the CW’s raunchy reality show The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For The Next Doll, became the band’s third leading lady. So there’s that too.
In 2008, listeners got their first taste of Treasure’s bratty ‘tude and vocal stylings when the band’s latest album, Season of Poison, earned release. The general consensus? The band’s onstage chemistry and overall quality has suffered because of the roster change.
But, c’mon, you already know what you’re getting with Shiny Toy Guns: They rock, yell, spin and scream during their live set, and if nothing else, the Shawnee, Oklahoma-based act is sure to entertain.
