Even if it weren’t cold enough outside to make using a stringed instrument for kindling seem like a reasonable idea, this beautiful drawing by Sarah Canavan would be an easy choice for Poster of the Week.

The poster promotes tonight’s KDGE The Local Show lineup at Trees with Jacob Metcalf, Baruch the Scribe, Seryn and Spooky Folk. As Pete wrote in today’s Dallas Observer, it should be a great neo-folk show–even if none of the acts would, could or should have anything to do with the  “prize” of opening a future Edgefest.

Writes Spooky Folk’s Petra Kelly, “This is actually the first band poster that [Canavan] has designed for us, but we’re hoping to see more later. She designed and colored the entire thing using markers.”

Very impressive to see someone use such a time-consuming method. I love the lettering, the starry sky, the patches of moss and the vivid colors of the flaming fiddles. Thanks for sending in posters–keep them coming by e-mail or postal mail–and Alex should be back to provide his insights next week.

Also, in other, semi-related news, Seryn and its Spune labelmate Doug Burr have just been added to the lineup for the upcoming MusInk Festival alongside Telegraph Canyon, Lucero and the Old 97’s.
