Nova Posta Vinyl, the record label that’s owned and operated by Midlake‘s Eric Pulido and Robert Gomez, has been busy lately.

Just last week, we found out that the Denton label will be re-releasing Midlake’s The Trials of Van Occupanther on vinyl. And now? They’re offering up a free download of Robert Gomez’s To The Smoke EP. (Donations are also accepted, although optional.)

The record features six B-sides that didn’t make the cut on Gomez’s most recent album, 2009’s, Pine Sticks and Phosphorus, which was co-produced by Centro-matic‘s Matt Pence, and featured performances from members of Midlake, The Polyphonic Spree, and Sarah Jaffe.

And, as an added bonus, it also includes the song he created last year while playing a David Byrne sound installation in London.

$30,000

Can’t say we’re really surprised that Gomez decided to release these tracks on their own–they’re too good to just be considered B-sides. The arrangements are dense and dark and they make good use of the natural tendencies of the backing players.

Saying it sounds like a lost Midlake record would be somewhat accurate, but it wouldn’t give nearly enough credit to Gomez, who seems incapable of creating anything less than brilliant. So, y’know, go grab it.
