You are almost certainly aware that Mr. Mangum is the voice, guitar and driving force behind a pair of classic, and relatively unique, albums from the 1990s when fronting the band Neutral Milk Hotel. Featuring repeated lyrical engagements with difficult subject matter, most noticeably Anne Frank, and a unique vocal style allied to a surprisingly simplistic song structure, the two albums (especially 1998’s more popular In the Aeroplane Over the Sea), have been bubbling-under cult successes ever since. He has been a somewhat enigmatic and mysterious figure, and this largely acoustic show promises a set heavy on songs from the two NMH albums, with part of the proceeds going to charity. New York’s Tall Firs offer support. Tickets are still available if you’re quick.
