Noah Bailey had the significant pleasure of speaking with Calexico‘s Joey Burns for this week’s paper–and he got some good stuff out of him, too. Especially, I think, toward the end of the piece, when the topic of the track “Victor Jara’s Hands” is brought up. At the very least, with that track, the band has on its hands one of the best songs of the year to go along with the disc as a whole, Carried to Dust, one of the year’s most intricate albums.
So, yeah, tomorrow’s show at the Granada should be a good ‘un, really. Hell, I’ll be there, despite a crazy busy weekend, to see the band’s first-rate musicianship up close and in person. And you can join me, too, actually, as the Granada has gone ahead and passed along three tickets to this concert for us to just give right away to you, our readers.
First three people to email me with “Carried to The Granada” in the subject line get the tickets.
Oh, and an interesting sidenote: Originally, Bowerbirds was slated to open. Not anymore, unfortunately, but they’ve been ably replaced here by Canada’s The Acorn, who pretty much slayed me at last year’s South by Southwest. (Oh, and local bands? Today’s the last day to apply to play SXSW 2009. So you know…)
