Many of us around here were introduced to The Smith Westerns back in 2009 when Gorilla vs. Bear posted a link to the band’s fuzzed-out first single “Be My Girl.” The song, a jangly, glammy, garage-rock number with a huge, unforgettable chorus, and the self-titled album it was on, made it to the top of many in the blogosphere’s year-end lists. And it also set the bar high for the band’s follow up record, Dye It Blonde, which saw it’s release just a few weeks ago.
Both the production and the songs on Dye It Blonde rise to the occasion, adding a somehow cleaner sound to the band’s fuzzed-out choruses, which ring out even stronger than the band’s previous effort. As the band’s music evolves and improves, we hope the same is true for their live performances. Because, tonight, we’re giving our readers a chance to see for themselves at the band’s performance at The Loft for free.
That’s right: the folks over at The Loft have been kind enough to pass along five pairs of tickets for us to give away to some lucky DC9 readers. Hit the jump to see how you can win.
