Between Bro Fest and South by Southwest, we fell head over heels for Kelley, Jessi and Nikki Darlin, the sisters-in-fake-last-name who make up Those Darlins (along with, fine, drummer Linwood Regensberg, the lone male member of the quartet). Not hard to see why: These spitfires put on a hell of a show–a raucous good time spurred by the band’s rowdy offerings of its country-tinged retro rock numbers and its flare for sometimes vulgar back-and-forth interactions with its crowds.
Back in October, when the band stopped off for a gig at The Cavern, Christian Schaeffer explained the band’s draw:
For a certain stripe of concert-going, PBR-drinking, Western-style shirt-wearing dude, Those Darlins shouldn’t be a tough sell. Three cute, 20-something gals from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, play bass, guitar and ukulele and share the microphone, singing songs of wild nights and country pride…. The [band’s] song topics may not be groundbreaking, but Those Darlins have the chops, harmonies and (most important) the right sense of humor to pull it off with smirking style.
Seconded. Plus, Austin’s John Wesley Coleman III, whose band features ex-Strange Boys drummer Matt Hammer, will open.
