Yeah, yeah. I know that these oldie tours are an easy target for the cool, indie rock naysayers out there, but most of the acts on tonight’s Hippiefest bill at Nokia Theatre are just a wee bit older than Aerosmith and ZZ Top, and I didn’t hear anyone complaining about that recent gig.

Anyhow, this is the third year that Nokia’s hosted this event, and the line up has hardly changed. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though; besides Chuck Negron belting out those Three Dog Night chestnuts and Flo & Eddie still doing their Turtles thing, this year’s lineup once again features Badfinger’s Joey Molland.

You might recall a couple of years ago when Molland was hating on Paul McCartney, the first time Hippiefest came though our area?  Even though Molland’s venting was way out of line, his versions of such Badfinger faves as “Day After Day,” “Baby Blue,” “Come and Get It” and “No Matter What” still carry quite a bit of power pop credibility.

Hey, no one ever said you had to be a nice guy to make great music. Just ask Ryan Adams.
