On its MySpace page, L.A.’s The Delta Mirror claims that its music comes “from the bent circuits of electronica, dead IDM laptops and broken shoegaze strings.”
Amazingly, that description is pretty damn spot on. Craig Gordon, David Bolt and Karrie K create a dreamy, electronic pop that wheezes and moans like a computer burning out its last circuits. But it’s a beautiful and delicate noise filled with lyrics about romantic misfortune that resonates without getting maudlin.
The Delta Mirror recently released its full-length debut, Machines That Listen. Songs such as “He Was Worse Than the Needle He Gave You” and “Hold Me Down, But Don’t Let Me Go” find this young trio exploring fascinating textures and sounds while still remaining listener friendly. And the band was kind enough to pass along the former of those songs over as a free download for DC9 readers. Give it a listen after the jump.

Funny thing about this group: Gordon and Bolt started out as a hip-hop two duo in the late ’90s, but with the addition of Karrie K on bass, what was just two guys farting around with computers turned into a serious and beautiful endeavor.
