Because I’m a huge loser and clearly a major sucker for pop culture slop, yes, I still watch The Real World–even this so-far atrocious Cancun season.
(Don’t judge me. Please.)
And, in last week’s episode, I thought I noticed a few familiar notes–oh, and you may recognize them, too–playing in the background of one of the scenes.
(Honestly? I forget which scene. But it probably came after the scene where that one douche who plays in a terrible pop-punk band got all pissy and obnoxious and then, later, upset, when his guitar got some water spilled on it. Waaaaaaaaaah. Maybe you shouldn’t bring your guitar to a fight, dumbass. But I digress.)

Anyway: A little rewinding on the DVR… a quick scan of the bar running across the bottom of the screen… and, yep! There it was! The song was familiar: It was “Beautiful Girls,” by area musician Brad Skistimas, who goes by the stage name of Five Times August. (Listen to the track after the jump.)
Which brings us to the point of this post, which, when I started writing it, was gonna be a congratulatory thing. But then I did a Wikipedia search–which, I know, isn’t exactly couth, but I wanted to find out the real name for the guy behind the moniker–and look what I found: Dude’s songs have already been played on like a bajillion MTV shows (according, again, to Wikipedia, so take it as you will).
Now, back to Mr. Skistimas (if that even is your real name): I still offer you my congratulations, I guess, because, y’know, I guess it’s still kinda cool to be on MTV and all?
But just know this: This way less of a congratulations than I’d originally intended. So there.
