Isn’t anybody else tired of the longhaired bands from New York? So many greasy, leather-wearing, Iggy Pop-imitating sleaze-rockers call the Big Apple their home, but bands like that make it easy to forget that America’s boiling pot still has some treats in its stew. Trees stirs up a tasty reminder of the better side of NYC indie-rock on Tuesday with Elefant and Ambulance LTD. The latter sneaks a dose of Prozac into the shoegazer style of Slint, and the former throws some danceable rhythms into Cure influences, but what both bands have in common is intelligence that you won’t find in those leather-clad bands.
